Migraine Awareness Month June 2025

June is Migraine Awareness Month, and this year we’re calling on all Aussies to help ‘Give Migraine a Break’.

With nearly 5 million Australians affected by migraine—a disabling, complex neurological disorder—it’s time we move beyond the outdated “just a headache” myth and take real steps toward understanding, empathy, and support.

Migraine is real. It’s genetic. And it’s more common than you think.

“1 in 5 Australians lives with some form of migraine, yet most don’t truly understand it,” says Jude Kingston, Chair of Migraine Australia. “They’ve been told it’s their fault, that it’s something they ate or didn’t do. But migraine is nobody’s fault—and it certainly isn’t ‘just a headache’.”

Stigma silences people with migraine. They're often misjudged, dismissed by doctors, misunderstood at work, and even doubted at home. But Migraine Awareness Month is here to smash the silence and empower the community.

The science has moved on—have we?

We now know more than ever about migraine, and cutting-edge treatments and preventative medications are becoming available in Australia. Yet access and understanding still lag behind.

That’s why Migraine Australia, the country’s only patient-led migraine advocacy group, is inviting everyone to get involved this June—whether you live with migraine or want to support someone who does.

• Pop on your shades for Shades for Migraine Day – June 21
• Join the conversation and find community in our Migraine Warrior Support Groups on Facebook

“Real change starts with real connection,” says Kingston. “People with migraine often don’t get the help they need until they find others who understand. Peer support is the gateway to proper care.”

Whether you're a migraine warrior or an ally, now’s the time to show your support and help us #GiveMigraineaBreak.
